Musiala vs Bellingham: Who will dominate der Klassiker between Bayern and BVB?
Jude Bellingham and Jamal Musiala are the two most valuable players in the Bundesliga. The Dortmund and Bayern Munich stars have seen their market value increase in this week’s Bundesliga market value update. And just a few days after their respective market value updates, the two Bundesliga stars will face one another in Der Klassiker.
Musiala is now up to €110 million, making him the most valuable German national team player in history. Bellingham, in the meantime, is up to €120m, which makes him both the most valuable player in the Bundesliga and the most valuable English-born player.
Both players are now in the top 10 of the most valuable players in world football and, with that in mind, will also be the players to watch in the upcoming Klassiker between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. In fact, for the first time in a long time, this game feels like a true Klassiker as it is visiting Dortmund, who are leading the Bundesliga standings going into the match.
Musiala vs Bellingham – Superstars by the numbers
Adding to the storyline is the fact that Bayern Munich replaced head coach Julian Nagelsmann with Thomas Tuchel just one week ago. Whether Tuchel will have an instant impact and beat Dortmund will also significantly depend on superstar Musiala. The 20-year-old is, without a doubt, the most talented player in this Bayern squad, and with Robert Lewandowski gone, has led Bayern in many key attacking categories.
Despite not being a true forward, Musiala leads Bayern Munich in scoring this season (overview). The 20-year-old is joined second in the Bundesliga with 20 scorer points (11 goals and nine assists)—only Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani (11 goals and 12 assists) has been more productive than the Bayern forward. Not surprisingly, Musiala has been voted the highest-rated player in the Bundesliga by Transfermarkt users (overview).
Bellingham, Wirtz, Davies & Co. - The most valuable players in the Bundesliga
While Musiala has been one of the most productive players in the Bundesliga, Bellingham also has had a major impact on Borussia Dortmund. And the Dortmund star has been voted the seventh highest-rated player by Transfermarkt users after scoring ten goals and six assists in 34 games across all competitions this season. In fact, the 19-year-old’s biggest knock has been his goalscoring in the Bundesliga in the first ten games of the season, a category that Bellingham has improved on significantly, scoring four goals in the last 14 games.
Musiala or Bellingham – Who will dominate Der Klassiker?
Bellingham, in fact, will be crucial if Dortmund wants to win Der Klassiker and open a gap to their title rivals Bayern. Two of the four goals scored by the English national team player were game-winners—among Dortmund players, only Youssoufa Moukoko (three) has been more impactful (overview).
Stats provided by Bundesliga.com further underline Bellingham’s importance to the Black and Yellows. Bellingham is third in the Bundesliga with 1,966 intensive runs behind Mario Götze (2,269) and Ridle Baku (2,006). No player in the Bundesliga has won more duels than Bellingham (360). Finally, Bellingham is ninth in the league with 661 sprints. In other words, while Musiala’s impact on the pitch can be measured by goals and assists, it is the underlying numbers that highlight why Bellingham is one of the hottest commodities in world football, with the likes of Man City and Real Madrid now leading the race for his signature.
For the moment, however, it is Bundesliga fans that can enjoy the two up-and-coming stars. In their own rights, both Musiala and Bellingham are now among the elite in world football. Both will be crucial for their respective teams when Bayern and Dortmund clash on Saturday, and their new market values underline that fact.
