Chelsea in advanced talks to sign Thiago Silva - Latest exception for over 30 player?

In Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, and perhaps in short-time Kai Havertz, Chelsea have signed some high profile players for the attack ahead of the upcoming season. What is missing, however, is much-needed depth in defense. That, however, could change soon. According to a report by The Athletic, the Blues are in advanced talks with Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva, whose contract will expire after Sunday's Champions League final. 

Chelsea have been in talks with the 35-year-old Brazilian, who will leave the Parisians after eight years and seven championships this summer. But The Athletic was careful in saying that despite the advanced talks, a deal was not concluded yet. 

Another over 30 exception for Chelsea - or a new contract at PSG?

Usually, Chelsea over players over 30 one year contracts. The exceptions were David Luiz (33) and Willian (32), both were handed two-year contracts—the two now play for city rivals Arsenal. It is also possible that PSG might make up their mind on keeping the Brazilian defender should they win the Champions League on Sunday. Otherwise, the Brazilian might move on a free transfer for the first time in his career. The defender has accumulated €58 million in transfer fees up to this point.

Chelsea's number one transfer goal in defense had been West Ham's Declan Rice, but Hammer's manager David Moyes has declared that the club will not sell the 21-year-old. The Blues were also interested in Brighton & Hove Albion defender Lewis Dunk. The 28-year-old captain, however, renewed his contract at the Seagulls on Friday.
